Royals Visit Australia: West Australians to have the chance to see The Queen and The Duke of Edinburgh in Perth


Premier Colin Barnett today welcomed the announcement by Buckingham Palace that Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II will also undertake a State Royal Visit to Western Australia when she travels to officially open the Commonwealth Heads of Government Meeting (CHOGM) next month.

“West Australians will have the chance to see the Royal couple during their visit and we hope to announce details of this as soon as possible,” Mr Barnett said.

“The itinerary will include public appearances. This is a wonderful opportunity for the State to show our vibrant capital city at its best to the world.

Perth Tourism News: Perth Fashion Festival Under Way


Western Australia's biggest annual fashion event, the Perth Fashion Festival, opened on Wednesday and is expected to wow audiences for the 13th year.

Running through to September 27 the festival includes more than 40 events, the majority of which will be free for the public to attend. In the past four years, festival attendance had almost tripled from 15,000 people in 2007 to 44,355 last year.

Perth Tourism News: Wallabies' Matches Secured for WA

The State Government, through Evenstcorp, had secured a three-year deal which will see the Australian rugby union team play test matches at Patersons Stadium in Subiaco.

From 2012, the current Tri-Nations series between Australia, New Zealand and South Africa will expand to include a fourth southern hemisphere heavyweight, Argentina. The first Perth match in the expanded competition will be staged in September 2012 when the Wallabies take on South Africa.

Perth Tourism News: Major New International Aquatic Event for Perth

Perth will become home to a unique new international swimming and water polo event to be known as the BHP Billiton Aquatic Super Series.

The series will become an annual feature on the international sporting calendar from 2013 and will see the Australian swim team take on the Chinese and South African national teams in a world-class program of events that will thrill spectators, and national and international television viewers alike.

WA Cities Most Liveable


Three WA cities are finalists in a United Nations-backed competition to find the most liveable community in the world. Mandurah, Joondalup and Geraldton beat hundreds of cities from more than 50 countries to be named finalists in their respective population categories of the Livcom Awards.

The Livcom Awards, are endorsed by the United Nations Environment Program, and are focused on international best practice regarding the management of the local environment. Only one other Australian city made the finals. The winners will be announced in October. Meanwhile, Perth has again made it into the top 10 list of the world's most liveable cities, ranking eighth for the second consecutive time. The list is compiled by the Economic Intelligence Unit which surveys 140 locations around the world.

Taylor Swift has extended her Speak Now world tour, adding six dates in Australia and New Zealand in 2012. In less than a year, the globetrotting superstar will have visited nearly 20 countries spanning four continents since the hugely successful tour's official kick-off in Singapore in February.
